Description
Zaleplon 10mg tablets are a branded insomnia medication used to treat common sleep disorders and sleep-related conditions. Classified as a ‘sedative hypnotic’, these tablets help the body to relax, and promote a good night’s rest.
Each Sonata Zaleplonum tablet contains 10mg of the active ingredient zaleplon. As sleeping tablets, zaleplon works in a similar way to benzodiazepines, although the chemical makeup is very different. Along with two others, zolpidem and zopiclone, it is one of the three ‘z’ drugs developed to replicate the effects of ‘benzos’, without the same level of risk, side effects, or likelihood of dependency and addiction.
Like ‘benzos’, zaleplon interacts with the GABA receptor in the brain, slowing down bodily functions and enabling the muscles to rest. Zaleplon 10mg is often used to treat short term sleep disturbances including temporary or mild insomnia. It is known for having a shorter half life than other ‘z’ drugs, particularly zolpidem, and may often be used to help patients who have found the effects of zolpidem to be too long lasting, causing them to continue feeling sleepy and drowsy during the day.
The standard dose for a healthy adult is one zaleplon tablet per day, taken by mouth just before bed. Over 65s may be advised to take a smaller 5mg dose.
Common side effects when taking zaleplon include drowsiness, dizziness, and a feeling of being light-headed. Some people may also experience balance problems, and a prickly or tingling feeling in the skin. It is important to speak to your doctor about any side effects to determine if zaleplon is the right choice for you.
